Code of Conduct

As a parent/guardian of a youth basketball player, I will:

  • Support and Encourage My Child:

    • Encourage my child to always try their best, stay positive, and develop good sportsmanship.

    • Show respect for coaches, players, referees, and other parents.

  • Respect the Coaches:

    • Trust that the coach is making decisions in the best interest of my child and the team.

    • Avoid coaching or giving instructions to players during the game.

    • Discuss any concerns with the coach in a respectful and constructive manner, outside of practice or game times.

  • Respect the Officials:

    • Support the referees and their calls, recognizing that they are part of the game.

    • Refrain from arguing or challenging referees or opposing teams.

  • Maintain a Positive and Respectful Attitude:

    • Maintain a positive attitude, even in the face of adversity, and support the team regardless of the outcome of the game.

    • Avoid using inappropriate language, making negative comments, or creating disruptive behavior at games or practices.

  • Encourage Teamwork:

    • Celebrate individual and team achievements without placing unnecessary pressure on my child or other players.

    • Support the team in both wins and losses, fostering a sense of unity and cooperation.

  • Promote Safety:

    • Ensure that my child attends practices and games regularly, comes prepared, and has the proper equipment.

    • Respect the safety rules and guidelines set by the league or team, and ensure my child follows them as well.

  • Understand the Importance of Education:

    • Support my child in balancing their academic responsibilities with their athletic commitments.

    • Encourage my child to maintain good grades and understand the importance of being a student-athlete.

  • Encourage Good Sportsmanship:

    • Teach my child to play the game with integrity and to respect their opponents.

    • Lead by example in displaying good sportsmanship, win or lose.

  • Resolve Disputes Respectfully:

    • If a concern arises, approach the coach or league officials in a calm and respectful manner to discuss the issue.

    • Avoid confrontations with coaches, referees, players, or other parents.

  • Commit to the Team:

    • Attend team meetings, practices, and games regularly and on time.

    • Support team fundraisers, community activities, and other events to help foster team spirit.

Consequences of Violating the Code:

Failure to comply with this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including warnings, suspension from games or events, or removal from the team. Parents and guardians are expected to demonstrate positive behavior at all times to create a safe and enjoyable experience for all players and families involved.

This code of conduct is designed to help create a positive environment for young athletes, focusing on fair play, respect, and personal growth.
